Before we get stuck into the finer details of editing. . . Congratulations on completing the first draft of your book. This is an incredible achievement and should be celebrated!

Writing a book can be a long and arduous journey, and as a writer, I know the difficulties writers face when it comes down to the final stint; editing. For some, it could be questioning if your plot pacing is steady or if a character’s arc is fully developed, and for others, it’s wondering if you’ve picked the right word or if those pesky commas are in the right spot. Well, this is where I can help.

Editing is such a vital step in the book-writing process, and it’s my aim to provide fellow authors with professional and affordable editing services that will guide you in bringing your beautiful story to life.

Editing Services: Welcome

Which service do I need?

Copy Editing

Your plot is perfected, your characters are well-developed, and your world-building is well-crafted, but you are finding issues with your pacing, word choice and spelling. This is where copy edits are the best fit.

Focusing on sentence structure, pacing, style inconsistencies and grammar, copy editing focuses on each line of text and analyses the sentence structure and word choice. It helps you to tighten and trim your prose to make your writing effective and have the intended impact desired.

Reading through your manuscript line by line, I’ll help you trim and tighten your prose to enhance readability and make your sentences sing.

All edits are done using track changes in Microsoft Word and will also include a detailed summary report. A 45-minute follow-up call can also be scheduled to discuss the report and answer any questions you might have.

Developmental Editing

Your writing is consistent and free of grammatical errors, but you are having issues with plot holes, creating character arcs and story pacing. This is where the developmental (or structural) edit works best.

Focusing on the big-picture elements of a story – such as plot, character, pacing, POV, tense and dialogue – the developmental edit considers all aspects of the story to ensure the readability is enjoyable and believable.

I’ll guide you through rewrites for your next draft by making suggestions that will help your amazing story ideas shine even brighter.

First 50-pages Critique

The first 50 pages of your book are essential as they help establish character, setting, tone, writing style, and so much more. To set yourself up for a successful story, it’s important to look at these essential elements before you continue with the rest of your novel.

Focusing on giving you feedback to help you set up the rest of your story for success, I’ll make suggestions around your story’s essential elements to guide you in finishing your first draft.

All suggestions will be sent in a detailed summary report.

A little about me…

Hi, I’m Kirsty, a YA Fantasy author and editor who has a love for books and storytelling.

I live in Sydney, Australia with my wonderful husband and mini-lop bunny, Winston, who loves books just as much as I do. Well, he loves nibbling the pages of whatever book I’m reading.

Reading and writing are two things I’ve always been passionate about, and when I’m not sitting at my desk, you will often find me curled up with a good book and a mug of tea. Or, if the weather is nice, in the garden attending to my many (hundreds) of plant babies.

With a love of still-life photography, I studied a Bachelor of Arts at Raffles School of Design and Commerce, where I majored in Visual Communication. But, despite my love of photography, it was in literary studies that my heart truly belonged. I furthered my studies in Editing and Creative Writing, which has helped me pursue my dream of writing books of my own.

Writing is a long and arduous journey, even more so when it comes time to edit your manuscript. Of all the stages in the writing journey, editing is my favourite. It’s where the magic happens, where the words on the page are weaved with precision and care to create something magical.
